OUR STORY

New Chapter, New Farmers

Glad to meet you! Freedom Hills Farm is a family owned business started in 2023 by Spencer and Nichole Smith. We purchased property in Jasper, GA in 2021 after the youngest of our beautiful daughters went off to college.

Both Spencer and Nichole came from humble family beginnings with some basic garden farming and rural roots that always called to us no matter where we lived. With successful careers in engineering and accounting, we looked for ways that our skills could translate to a simpler and more sustainable life. Once in Jasper, we prayed about and researched ways we could improve our personal sustainability efforts beyond just traditional gardening.

Aquaponics was an ideal way for us to utilize existing buildings on the property with the added bonus of being able to produce food to offer for sale. After customizing, purchasing and installing an aquaponics system we started test crops.

ABOUT FREEDOM HILLS FARM

Aquaponics?

Aquaponics is an innovative and eco-friendly farming technique that combines aquaculture (raising fish) and hydroponics (growing plants in water). In this symbiotic system, fish waste provides natural nutrients for the plants, and the plants help filter and clean the water for the fish. This method conserves water, reduces the need for chemical fertilizers, and can produce fresh, healthy food year-round. Enjoy the benefits of sustainable, local produce with aquaponics!

If you schedule a visit with us and take a tour you may even find some extra unique things about the farm as well.

PRODUCE GROWN WITH NO CHEMICALS, 90% LESS WATER THAN OUTDOOR CROPS AND HALF THE TIME (or shorter)

How is this possible? We grow our crops in a state of the art indoor controlled environment agriculture facility. Being indoors means that there are almost no pests to worry about.
